Things are starting to really clear themselves up in the 2012 Heisman race. I think it is safe to say Matt Barkley is gone from the list for good. Geno Smith will have to do a lot of heavy lifting if he wants to creep back in. Some are calling for Alabama QB A.J. McCarron is starting to gain support, but I want to see what he does against the best defense they will face all year in LSU. Oregon RB Kenjon Barner would get more consideration if he actually played a full game at his position. De’Anthony Thomas sees the field quite a bit as well, and I believe they actually cancel each other out. This week there are three names on the FanSided Radio Heisman Watch List.
1) Manti Te’o LB Notre Dame
Let me start by saying, Manti Te’o is an absolute beast. He led The Irish defense into Norman and once again dominated the game. With each passing week, his leadership becomes clearer. He added his fifth interception on the year to go along with 80 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 fumble recovery. Te’o is leading the Irish on a possible BCS Championship run. He may not get as much attention as the other Heisman hopefuls, but if this award is supposed to go to the best player in college football, he is my frontrunner.
2) Collin Klein QB Kansas State
The Kansas State quarterback is showing that he is truly a duel threat quarterback. He shredded Texas Tech going 19 of 16 for 233 yards though the air and another 83 on the ground. He also added four more touchdown to his resume. The Wildcats quarterback is motoring his high powered offense every week, and is the reason that K State is perfect on the season.
3) Marqise Lee WR USC
Marquise Lee is the reason Trojan QB Matt Barkley was even considered for the Heisman early on. Lee has 1,129 yards on 75 receptions. The USC standout also has 10 touchdowns on the season. He broke the PAC 12 record with 345 yards receiving last week in the Trojans loss to Arizona.
