In one of the more crazy college football weekends I can remember, mighty Alabama finally went down. The Death Valley crowd was intense as always, and Tigers quarterback Zach Mettenberger finally showed that he is capable of leading LSU to a title game…well, almost.

LSU head coach Les Miles made several questionable play calls and it may have lost his squad the game. A few missed field goals, a failed onside kick, and a  head scratching fourth down call left Alabama withing striking distance. The Crimson Tide made them pay for it with a touchdown pass with under a minute left in the game. Alabama escaped with a 21-17 win, keeping their repeat bid for a BCS Title alive.

Oregon won a shootout with USC to stay perfect. Kansas State took care of Oklahoma State, and Notre Dame squeaked out a win in triple overtime. Louisville also won, staying perfect on the year. Five eligible teams (Ohio State cannot play in the postseason until 2013) are still unbeaten after the first weekend in November. There can only be two teams in The BCS Championship. If Bama runs the table they are in. Who will be that second team that plays for the crystal football? Human polls, computer rankings, and a lot of luck will factor in.

We won’t have this problem in 2014, there will be a four team playoff. Well, there won’t be a problem as long as there aren’t more than four undefeated teams. Maybe we are getting ahead of ourselves. Maybe Oregon gets tripped up between now and The PAC 12 Championship. Florida or Georgia could trip up Alabama in the SEC title game. Louisville might meet a foe that can end their campaign. Notre Dame still has USC on their schedule. The only thing we do know, November should provide us with a great month of football.
