Usually The Fearless Five focuses on individual games. This weekend, The Game of all games takes center stage.
Super Bowl predictions can go further than just the final score. There are other things that factor into the win. Who will rush for the most yards, which team will have more passing yards, the most turnovers, and who will control the clock with time of possession. These will all be covered in The Super Bowl Predictions edition of The Fearless Five.
The Fearless Five: Super Bowl Predictions
1) Who will rush for the most yards: San Francisco 49ers
San Francisco has weapons in both RB Frank Gore and QB Colin Kaepernick. Gore has been one of the elite backs in the NFL his entire career, and Kaepernick has been a sensation moving the ball on the ground. The duo will face a stout defense in Baltimore, but with two valuable weapons in the backfield, it gives them a clear advantage.
2) Which team will have the most passing yards: Baltimore Ravens
Joe Flacco has stepped his game up considerably in this post season. Expect more of the same in Super Bowl XLVII. Flacco has a full core of great receivers, including running back Ray Rice. Anquan Bolden will be force downfield. I am sure The Ravens have watched game film from The NFC Championship Game, and know that down field passing was a problem for The 49er defense against Atlanta. I expect Joe Flacco to go for at least 300 yards through the air.
3) Who will have more turnovers: San Francisco 49ers
Colin Kaepernick has been stellar rushing the football since taking over as The 49er’s starting quarterback. Although I think he will get his chunk of the rushing pie in The Super Bowl, I believe that he will throw a few pics against The Baltimore Ravens veteran defense. I would also look for at least one fumble from either Gore or any of the San Francisco wide receivers. When it comes to turnovers, I predict 3 for The 49ers and 2 from Baltimore.
4) Who will win the battle for Time of Possession: Baltimore Ravens
While I believe San Francisco will win the rushing yardage war, Baltimore will win time of possession. John Harbaugh will use Ray Rice effectively out of the backfield and in the short yardage pass game. Expect Joe Flacco to use clock even when The Ravens are throwing the football. Baltimore is a bit more battle tested than San Francisco, and game planning will win Baltimore the clock. Time of possession, Baltimore by 6 minutes.
5) Who will be Super Bowl XLVII Champions: Baltimore Ravens
I am going against all conventional thinking with this pick. Tenacious D comes to mind, “The Pick of Destiny.” Everything has gone Baltimore’s way in this post season. Ray Lewis is riding into the sunset, Flacco is playing for a ring and an elite contract, and Baltimore just feels right to me in this game. I expect a hard fought battle, a physical throwback to the days of Nagurski and Butkus. Baltimore 24 San Francisco 23. The 49ers miss a last second field goal, giving Baltimore the win.
