Anaheim Ducks Are Being Overlooked

The Chicago Blackhawks are making headlines with their consecutive games scoring a point streak. All of the attention of the hockey world is focused on Chicago, forgetting other teams that are having great seasons.

The Anaheim Ducks are being overlooked. Sitting in second place in the Western Conference, the Ducks trail the Blackhawks by 8 points. They are also one of the three teams who have defeated Chicago this season. Not only did they take Chicago down, but they did it via a 3-2 shootout victory at The United Center.

Anaheim, statistically speaking, are both better and worse in certain areas. While Chicago has the edge in goals against and penalty kill percentage, the Ducks are better in goals scored and power play percentage.

I am not suggesting that Anaheim is the better team right now, but they are a team that will contend in the Western Conference and for The Stanley Cup. They are a tough and gritty team that can score and defend, and have already proven they can beat quality teams. While the defending NHL Champion Los Angeles Kings snapped the Ducks six game winning streak, Anaheim already holds a victory against L.A. As I mentioned earlier, they have also taken down the mighty Blackhawks. Factor in two wins against Vancouver and victories over Nashville, St. Louis, and San Jose, they have already shown the ability to beat playoff quality opponents.

As this shortened season continues, don’t forget about The Anaheim Ducks. While the nation pays attention to Chicago, Ryan Getzlaf and company will be paying attention to improving themselves, and making a push for the playoffs. They might not be making headlines now, but headlines today will mean nothing in the post season. The Anaheim Ducks will  be ready for anyone, even the mighty Chicago Blackhawks.
