2012 Record: 94-68 (2nd in NL East)
Key Additions: OF B.J. Upton, OF Justin Upton
Key Losses: OF Michael Bourn, UT Martin Prado. P Tommy Hanson
2013 Outlook: The Atlanta Braves finished short of their goals in 2012, so they brought in hired mercenaries in Justin and B.J. Upton. The brothers will add speed, power, and average to the Braves already stout lineup.
As already mentioned, the Upton’s bring a variety of tools to the table. Add Jason Heyward onto the outfield mix, and you have three absolute weapons in the field and at the plate. The infield is also strong with Brian McCann, Freddie Freeman, Dan Uggla, and Chris Johnson. This team will score runs and will be solid in the field.
The pitching staff is also impressive. Tim Hudson, Kris Medlen, Mike Minor, and Paul Maholm are imposing. Factor in one of the games best closers in Craig Kimbrel, and rivals will have to work for every run they score.
The Atlanta Braves aren’t just contenders in the East, but for a World Series Title. Manager Fredi Gonzalez has to feel confident heading into Atlanta’s 2013 season.
