March Madness 2013: Ohio State Holds On To Beat Arizona

2013 NCAA Tournament

Final: Ohio State —  Arizona State —

The Ohio State Buckeyes almost squandered away their ticket to The Elite Eight.  After a slow start that had them trailing 8-2 a few minutes into the game, Ohio State battled back to trail by only a few points at the half.

As the second half got under way, the Buckeyes asserted themselves offensively and finally tied the game at 28 with 18:14 left in the game. Aaron Craft helped Ohio State take the lead with four free throws, and the entire starting lineup started to contribute.

With 11:04 left to play, a Deshaun Thomas three pointer gave Ohio State a 53-43 lead. Then the Arizona Wildcats came roaring back. With just 1:18 left in the game, the Wildcats trailed 70-65. Mark Lyons scored five unanswered points for Arizona, and with 21 seconds remaining the game was tied.

As they often do, Ohio State set their offense, and LaQuinton Ross nailed a three pointer to give the Buckeyes a 73-70 win. Ohio State now awaits the winner of tonight’s La Salle/Wichita State game in the Elite Eight.
