NFL fans far and wide, we are back. It may be the off season, but there are always goings on in the NFL, and I have got a few things to say about them. Let’s get to it. Break!

ROMO GETS PAID, AND DONOVAN DOESN’T LIKE IT

Late last week, the Dallas Cowboys made Tony Romo the highest paid player in team history, signing him to a 6 year, $108 million contract extension, including $55 million in guaranteed money. Well, former quarterback turned analyst Donovan McNabb was not thrilled about the news, and had this to say, via Twitter:

Hey Donovan, mind your own business! First of all, let’s take a look at Romo’s regular season stats, since he took over as the starting quarterback:

Season Team Passing Rushing Fumbles
G GS Comp Att Pct Yds Avg TD Int Sck SckY Rate Att Yds Avg TD FUM Lost
2012 Dallas Cowboys 16             16 425 648 65.6 4,903 7.6 28 19 36 263 90.5 30 49 1.6 1 6 3
2011 Dallas Cowboys 16             16 346 522 66.3 4,184 8.0 31 10 36 227 102.5 22 46 2.1 1 6 3
2010 Dallas Cowboys 6             6 148 213 69.5 1,605 7.5 11 7 7 41 94.9 6 38 6.3 0
2009 Dallas Cowboys 16             16 347 550 63.1 4,483 8.2 26 9 34 196 97.6 35 105 3.0 1 6 4
2008 Dallas Cowboys 13             13 276 450 61.3 3,448 7.7 26 14 20 123 91.4 28 41 1.5 0 13 7
2007 Dallas Cowboys 16             16 335 520 64.4 4,211 8.1 36 19 24 176 97.4 31 129 4.2 2 10 2
2006 Dallas Cowboys 16             10 220 337 65.3 2,903 8.6 19 13 21 124 95.1 34 102 3.0 0 9 3

Folks, that’s pretty damn good.  For comparison sake, look at Joe Flacco’s regular season stats:

2012 Baltimore Ravens 16             16 317 531 59.7 3,817 7.2 22 10 35 227 87.7 32 22 0.7 3 9 4
2011 Baltimore Ravens 16             16 312 542 57.6 3,610 6.7 20 12 31 203 80.9 39 88 2.3 1 11 6
2010 Baltimore Ravens 16             16 306 489 62.6 3,622 7.4 25 10 40 294 93.6 43 84 2.0 1 9 4
2009 Baltimore Ravens 16             16 315 499 63.1 3,613 7.2 21 12 36 218 88.9 35 56 1.6 0 8 2
2008 Baltimore Ravens 16             16 257 428 60.0 2,971 6.9 14 12 32 276 80.3 52 180 3.5 2 11 2

These are stats that are comparable. Yes, Flacco just had an unbelieveable run that culminated in a Super Bowl title. As such, he deserved to get paid. But let’s not talk about Romo as if he is Ryan Fitzpatrick OK? Easy Donovan.

And by the way, how many Super Bowls did you win Donovan? He’s talking about Romo’s contract as if he is Joe Montana, in the playoffs and winning every year. Romo’s entitled to get his, and this is the price of doing business with a quarterback in this day and age. Get over it, McNabb.

THERE IS A NEW SHERIFF IN NEW JERSEY

For those of you watching the league from around the country, you may have noticed something in the coverage of the New York Jets. There hasn’t been any talk! The team has gone from leaking rumors every five minutes, to not even confirming that the sky is blue. They are actually focused on getting work done, rather than working the media.

The difference here is at the top of the team. Mike Tannenbaum was here, and there were more leaks than you could imagine. Now, nothing! There is a new sheriff in town, named John Idzik, and we love it.
