Country Fried Tuesday: Atlanta Braves Offseason Moves Paying Off

May 9, 2013; San Francisco, CA, USA; Atlanta Braves left fielder Justin Upton (8) hits a triple during the fifth inning against the San Francisco Giants at AT

When the Atlanta Braves brought B.J. and Justin Upton into the fold during the offseason, improvement was expected. I even had them winning the division over the favorite Nationals in the NL East. The teams hot start has cooled a bit, but the Braves still lead Washington by a game going into tonight’s matchup with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Justin Upton’s former team.

Upton leads the team in several offensive categories, including 13 home runs and 23 RBI’s. Considering his best season at the plate was in 2011 with 31 HR and 88 RBI, this looks to be a career season for the 25 year old outfielder.

B.J. Upton, Justin’s older brother, has been disappointing in 2013. He has never been known as an offensive power, but this seasons numbers are well below his career average. His anemic .151 batting average will have to improve in order for the Atlanta Braves to have staying power throughout the season.

Since it’s Country Fried Tuesday on FanSided Radio, I went with a Georgia boy to accompany B.J. Upton and the Atlanta Braves early season success. Zac Brown Band and “Chicken Fried” is the featured video of the day.
