The Onside Kick: Vincent Lecavalier Bought Out By Tampa Bay Lightning

On Wednesday, the Tampa Bay Lightning decided to buyout the contract of 33-year old center Vincent Lecavalier.

Lecavalier had seven-years left on his contract worth $45 million ($7.72 million cap hit). This past season, he had ten goals, 22 assits, 32 points, and a -5 plus/minus in 39 games.

According to ESPN, “Tampa will have to pay Lecavalier $32.67 million in the buyout which includes an $8 million bonus that had to be paid out in full.”

Ricky Widmer of The Onside Kick gives his thoughts and opinions on the buyout of Vincent Lecavalier by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He talks about how Steven Stamkos most likely played into this decision by the Lightning and about how the amount of Lecavalier’s contract lead them to this buyout.

Tell us what you think down below. Did the Lightning buy out Vincent Lecavalier because of Steven Stamkos? Where will Lecavalier go this offseason?
