The Onside Kick: Derrick Rose Out For Season, Should Chicago Bulls Consider Tanking?

Earlier this week, it was reported by ESPN that Derrick Rose was done for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery. This will be Rose’s second knee injury in two years and will mean that the young Chicago star will be absent for the team for almost two straight years.

Because of this injury, some people in the city of Chicago have thrown out the idea of the Chicago Bulls tankings in order to get a higher draft pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

Ricky Widmer, Dave Oster, and Mark Weber take a look at the Chicago Bulls and discuss whether or not tanking is an option for the Bulls this season. They also look at the future and give their players that Bulls fan might see being traded along with a “what if” situation featuring a surprising firing if it actually happened down the far future.

absolutely not! The Chicago Bulls team is too good for tanking. I don’t think any NBA team should engage in tanking. They’re getting paid a salary, and the fans pay to see their favorite teams.

    • Ricky Widmer

Thanks for the comment Candice. Love your work on “Pippen Aint Easy.” What moves do you think the Bulls need to make instead of straight tanking?

  • Candice Connell

Thanks Ricky!! I appreciate your work as well. I say they definitely need to make some trades happen. Even if it does mean removing some core guys. Luol Deng would probably be the one who’s gonna leave. We need another solid scorer, so we won’t have to only depend on Rose when he comes back.

Sounds like what every Bulls fan is saying. I’m just going to be pissed if 1) we don’t trade Deng and then he walks or 2) resign Deng and cannot make any major changes. Go Bulls!

I agree 100%!!! We need to make some changes to help make the team better in the long run. I hope they make the right moves. The future of the Chicago Bulls depends on it! Always a Bulls fan though!

#23 didn’t build this franchises success just to watch to fail. haha

Haha!!! That’s right! The Bulls are on another level just because of the Legacy of Michael Jordan!
